Parking a nightmare near sub-urban bus stand

Sir,

This is with reference to the letter titled ‘Parking problem continues at sub-urban bus stand’ published in Star of Mysore dated Feb.14. It is the result of the lack of foresight in the officials concerned when the suburban bus stand was renovated a few years back.

Even after the renovation, the parking problem for commuters is not solved. The drop-and-pick-up area in front of the bus station entrance is very congested and partly reserved for parking two-wheelers of the people visiting the bus stand.

Though money was spent to give facelift, perhaps, authorities have not focused on the parking issue to meet the current and future needs of the commuters. The cellar should have been extended to the entire bus stand premises to make it possible to park a good number of cars and two-wheelers.

Having such a facility might have facilitated the public to come to the bus stand in their own vehicles to drop or pick up their near and dear. Even now, authorities can think of creating parking space in the cellar by expanding the cellar area (below the open space of the bus station, after the platforms)  further with an entrance and exit gates from the lane behind the bus station by making that lane one-way to avoid congestion.

The cellar can be connected to platforms through a staircase, lift, etc. The only other alternative may be constructing a multi-storied parking lot near the bus stand. Until then parking of cars continues to be a nightmare near the bus stand.
