As Karnataka celebrates a year of the ‘Shakti’ scheme offering free bus rides for women, the State Government has efficiently rolled out the initiative with significant financial backing.
However, amidst this success, critical issues persist with the maintenance of other KSRTC buses running on long routes, particularly the Airavat Club-Class AC bus bearing registration number KA-09-F-4915 that runs between Dharmasthala and Mysuru, prompting me to write this letter.
This particular bus suffers from severe problems: Leaking roof, unpleasant odours and torn seats with uncomfortable recliners, causing distressing journeys and physical discomfort despite a steep fare of Rs. 630, a fully unjustified price tag for the sub-standard facilities it offers.
With nearly Rs. 4,300 crore allocated for the ‘Shakti’ scheme this fiscal year, there is a pressing need to allocate adequate funds for the maintenance of other KSRTC buses that do not come under the scheme.
Continued neglect could lead these buses to be decommissioned prematurely, compounded by a rising number of breakdowns on the roads. Moreover, these smelly and uncomfortable buses bring a bad name to the KSRTC that constantly boasts of providing the best travelling experience. Urgent action from the Transport Department is crucial to address these issues and ensure improvements in bus conditions promptly.
