Recently, there has been a steep hike in the toll fee at the bridge near Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam. For what purpose? Our politicians seem eager to spend crores of tax-payers’ money on projects like Cauvery Aarti and are even considering turning Brindavan Gardens into a Disneyland-style attraction. Instead, this money could be better utilised to develop the road from Mysuru to KRS (Brindavan Gardens), which is in a deplorable condition and barely motorable.
From Metagalli Ring Road junction to KRS, the road is riddled with potholes, barring a short stretch. Particularly after the JK Tyre area near KIADB (Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board) office, navigating the road becomes extremely difficult due to massive potholes and unscientific road humps.
These humps are neither marked with white stripes nor accompanied by warning boards, posing a serious hazard to motorists. The common man is already burdened by the rising prices of essential commodities. Poor road conditions only add to this burden through increased vehicle wear and tear.
Given that many industries and educational institutions are located along this route, hundreds of employees and students use it daily. Additionally, KRS Dam is a major tourist destination visited by people from across the country and around the world. Roads leading to such prominent spots must be prioritised for maintenance and development. With the monsoon setting in, the situation will only worsen, making it even more dangerous for commuters.
I sincerely hope the authorities concerned take urgent action to re-lay and, if possible, widen Mysuru-KRS Road — without cutting down trees — and ensure it is safe and accessible for all.
