The above image of Panchamantra Road, West First Cross, paints a stark picture of the road’s cleanliness. Despite scheduled clean-ups by sanitation workers every or alternate Fridays, the condition remains appalling.
This situation presents a dismal display of neglect from both the Mysuru City Corporation and the residents.
The garbage truck tasked with collecting the accumulated waste last serviced this area on Jan. 24, 2024. Since then, heaps of garbage have piled up in the drain. Following my request, a tractor was dispatched by the local Health Inspector to clear the garbage in front of my house. However, due to the overwhelming amount of waste, the truck filled up before completing the task.
The supervisor informed me that the remaining garbage would be cleared at a later date. Meanwhile, residents from other areas, displaying lack of civic responsibility, continue to add to the mess by disposing of their refuse here. Adjacent to this dumping ground lies a large bungalow and a hospital, both of which contribute to the accumulation of waste, setting a poor example for others.
Furthermore, this road hosts a Government School where children struggle to navigate through the overflowing drain and piles of putrid garbage. While neighbouring roads have seen improvements such as paved footpaths, this particular stretch has been neglected. Despite aspirations to reclaim Mysuru’s title as the ‘cleanest city’, it appears that this dream remains distant and unattainable
