Of late Kalidasa Road has become one of the busiest roads in Mysuru with lot of commercial establishments doing fairly good business. Since there is ample designated parking area for both two-wheelers and four- wheelers, this road is frequented by the public. Unfortunately the area Corporator, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) or the shop-keepers association of Kalidasa Road have not taken any initiative to make this road pedestrian-friendly.
The footpath from Panchavati Circle to Chandrakala Hospital is totally undulated and is unfit and risky for the pedestrians to use. The pedestrians are forced to walk on the road abutting the parked vehicles. The heavy traffic flow invites a great risk to the pedestrians walking on the road.
MCC has funds to squander on various un-productive expenses and also have funds to asphalt and re-asphalt good roads, but have no funds to make the footpaths pedestrian- friendly.
The authorities concerned should wake up from their deep slumber and inspect the condition of Kalidasa Road footpath and initiate remedial actions to make it pedestrian-friendly and save the public from the risk of walking on this busy road.
