People should be committed to save environment: Judge B.G. Dinesh

Mysore/Mysuru: People should be committed in conserving the environment for future generations, said Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Member Secretary B.G. Dinesh.

Speaking after inaugurating World Environment Day celebrations jointly organised by District Administration, DLSA, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and Madilu Educational and Rural Development Society at Kirurangamandira in Kalamandira, here on June 5, he said that while a few departments and organisations were conducting a year-long programme related to Environment Day, people were showing no interest in the same.

Stating that it was important for everyone to protect the natural resources, Dinesh said while people think for long time to purchase materials which has an expiry of one year, why aren’t they thinking to preserve and conserve the environment which is much needed for our children to survive for 50-60 years.

Like the humans, even plants, animals and micro organisms have the right to live on the earth. It is important to live in harmony. We should be committed not to overuse the natural resources. Our forefathers have ensured to preserve the environment, forest and wildlife for future generations. Similarly, we need to take initiatives to follow their footsteps, said Dinesh.

The DLSA Member Secretary also highlighted the ill-effects of causing harm to environment stating that over abuse of environment for decades had caused severe problems to mankind with temperature reaching more than 41 degree Celsius in Mysuru despite having green cover and it would have increased to 45 degree Celsius in the absence of trees. Delhi has recorded 52 degree Celsius which is a warning alarm.

“It is important to stop the felling of trees to prevent the possible adverse in the future,” said Dinesh.

The organisers also distributed prizes to winners of various competitions held as part of Environment Day. The event was presided by Senior Environment Officer Y. S. Harishankar.

Historian Dharmendra Kumar, Environment Officer K.L. Savitha, Department of Kannada and Culture Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjuna Swamy, Prof. B.M. Sadashiva of SJCE and  others were present.
