Mysuru: A District-level meeting of department officers to review the progress of implementation of the Persons With Disabilities (PWD) Act was chaired by the State Commissioner for PWD V.S. Basavaraj at ZP office here on Friday.
Basavaraj asked the officials to properly implement the Central and State Government Schemes and provide grant and training to get employed in industries. He asked the disabled people engaged in agriculture to avail their rightful benefits provided by the Department. He asked all government and private buildings to provide facilities like toilet and lift for disabled people so also reserved seats in KSRTC buses.
Basavaraj asked BEOs to ensure that dropped out disabled students come back to school and also to create awareness among parents on importance of education. He asked officials to provide Mobility Instructors and Trainers for disabled students in schools and colleges and also special facility for sports. He opined that mentally challenged children were easy targets for harassment and should hence be well taken care of in schools.
Additional DC Poornima, DHO Dr. Venkatesh, Assistant Commissioner for PWD S.K. Padmanabha, ZP CEO K. Jyothi, Chief Planning Officer Padmashekar Pandey, Department of Women and Child Development Deputy Director Padma were present at the meeting.
