Mandya: A pet dog was killed by a leopard at Shettihalli in Melukote here late on Thursday night. Mallesh, a JD(S) leader of Shettihalli, had tied his pet dog (Robert species), valued at about Rs. 50,000, at his farmhouse on Thursday night, when the leopard attacked and killed it. The incident came to light on Friday morning, when the dog owner Mallesh reported the matter to the Forest Department.
Following complaints of increasing leopard attacks in the area, Melukote MLA C.S. Puttaraju met Pandavapura Tahsildar, who in turn directed the Forest Department officials to initiate action. Forest officials assured the villagers that traps will be placed at all spots where leopards move about.
