To hold farrier workshop for tonga horse owners on Nov. 18
Mysore/Mysuru: People for Animals (PFA), Mysuru, in association with Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS), Ooty and Jeev Daya Jain Charity (JDJC), Mysuru, had organised a free health check-up camp for tonga horses near Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the North Gate of Mysore Palace this morning.
About 15 tonga owners had brought their horses to the camp and PFA Veterinarian Dr. Amardeep Singh and Dr. Ankith of WVS, conducted health check-up of horses and treated them for various ailments including wounds. Later, the volunteers of PFA and members of Jeev Daya Jain Charity distributed free nutritional supplements and medicines to tonga horse owners.
PFA Mysuru Chairperson Savitha Nagabhushan, PFA volunteer Bhagyalakshmi, JDJC President Kokila Jain, Member Usha Gandhi and others were present during the event.
Tomorrow (Nov. 17), PFA and WVS will be conducting the free horse camp at Srirangapatna.
On Nov. 18, a day-long farrier workshop for tonga horse owners will be held at PFA campus, near Roopa Nagar, Bogadi village, during which tonga horse owners will be educated on caring of their horses’ hooves.
As part of the workshop, Dr. Ankit of WVS will deliver a lecture and will present a video demo on anatomy of hoof, corrective hoof trimming and shoeing and common problems in hooves.
A practical demonstration by specialist Farrier Aazad of Brooke India will also be held and certificates and kits will be distributed to the participants. A Farrier is a person whose job involves taking care of horses’ hooves and shoeing them if they need protection. In fact, the term farrier demonstrates how closely related the profession is to blacksmithing or making things from metal. Farrier comes from the Latin root ferrum or iron.
