Piteelu Chowdaiah Samsmarana on Jan. 19

Lifetime award presentation to Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji

Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha has organised Piteelu Chowdaiah Samsmarana programme on Jan. 19 at 6 pm at the Sabha premises on JLB Road.

On the occasion, Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji will be honoured in the name of legendary Violinist Piteelu Chowdaiah.

The award is given to Sri Swamiji for his lifetime allround service to Nada Devate. The Swamiji himself is a Nadopasaka, a Composer, Plays Datta Veena and also  sings bhajans.

This will be followed by a Grand Flute concert by Mysore A. Chandan Kumar at 6.30 pm where the compositions of Sri Swamiji and Piteelu Chowdaiah will be played. He will be accompanied by Charulatha Ramanujan on violin, H.S. Sudheendra on mridanga and G.S. Ramanujan on ghata.

Mysore A. Chandan Kumar hails from a family of great musicians. He is the great grandson of Sangeetha Kalanidhi late Mysore T. Chowdaiah. He has done his Master’s in Commerce.

Chandan Kumar learnt the art of Flute playing from his Guru Vidwan M. Gopalakrishna. He  also takes guidance from Padma Bhushan P.S. Narayanaswamy. He is an accomplished A-grade Flutist of All India Radio and Doordarshan.

He has performed in major sabhas in India and abroad.

The main characteristics of Chandan’s virile style are powerful blow, soul-moving melody and refreshing creativity with a gayaki style.

Chandan has toured Malaysia with Sri Ganapathy Swamiji of Avadootha Datta Peetham, for a special concert titled “Music for meditation and healing” at Kuala Lumpur during April 2001, where he had the privilege of accompanying Sri Swamiji with Padma Bhushan Dr. L. Subramanium.
