Play ‘Tipu Nija Kanasugalu’ creates record To be staged across Kalyana

Mysore/Mysuru: The Kannada play ‘Tipu Nija Kanasugalu,’ written and directed by Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa, has created a record of sorts by successfully staging a total of 26 shows for full house in South Karnataka — Mysuru, Bengaluru, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Shivamogga, Mangaluru, Hassan, Puttur, Kodagu  and Mandya.

In the second leg, now the play will be staged in places across Kalyana Karnataka from Jan. 27 to Feb. 14 as per the following schedule: Jan. 27 – Hubballi, Jan. 29 – Dharwad, Jan. 31 – Belagavi, Feb. 2 – Vijayapura, Feb. 5- Bagalkot, Feb. 8 – Bidar, Feb. 9 and 10 – Kalaburagi, Feb. 12 – Raichur and Feb. 14 – Ballari.

At all the said places, tickets are almost sold out and the Rangayana, which has begun its 100-show journey, will be completing 50 shows by the end of Feb. 14.

The play, based on letters of Tipu Sultan which are preserved in the British Library and has been translated into Kannada by Chidananda Murthy, begins with the scenes from the fourth and final Anglo-Mysore war. The three-hour play captures the imagination of the audience and has earned accolades.

The book titled ‘Tipu Nija Kanasugalu’ too has created record with 12 reprints so far. The 12th reprint will be released in Dharwad by MLA C.T. Ravi.
