‘Players with right attitude will make a cut into the teams’

KSCA Vice-President Sujith Somasundar seen interacting with young cricketers at SDNR Wadiyar Stadium in Manasagangothri, Mysuru, yesterday as KSCA Mysuru Zone Chairman T. Ravindra and Convenor P. Srinivas Prasad look on.

Mysuru: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Mysuru Zone, had organised an interaction programme for the budding cricketers, parents and coaches at the SDNR Wadiyar Stadium in Manasagangothri, here yesterday.

The interaction was organised to give a brief insight into how the selection process works, development of cricket and cricket as a career, among others.

Former International Cricketer and KSCA Vice-President Sujith Somasundar, who chaired the interaction programme, was clear in his message to cricketers and parents that the selection process would be transparent   and cricketers with right attitude and performance would be   given a chance to represent the Zonal or State teams.

Sujith also announced the commencement of KSCA Academy in the month of April for both boys and girls. “About 25-30 players would be selected in each age group for the summer camp and they will be trained in every aspect of the sport. The trainees will also be exposed to match scenarios and based on the performances, the players will be selected for the Zonal teams,” he added.

Citing the example of former international cricketer and ICC Match Referee Javagal Srinath, who is native of Mysuru, Sujith said that more and more umpires, scorers, video analysts and other technicians must emerge from Mysuru and there were a lot other opportunities in cricket apart from playing professional cricket.

He added that KSCA was committed to improve women’s cricket on par with men’s cricket. “Post the Women’s World Cup triumph, we have seen a lot of girls showing their interest in the game. There is a need for a proper structure and plan for developing women’s cricket and KSCA is committed to provide all necessary facilities for improving women’s cricket in the State,” he said.

While addressing the parents, Sujith suggested the parents not to get involved in the game and to stop comparing their children with other players. He said, comparing with others would only add unnecessary pressure on their children.

He advised the players not to get disheartened for not making into the teams but to analyse the reasons for not getting through. “Talented players will also get recognised,” he said.

KSCA Managing Committee Member G.A. Chandrika, Mysuru Zone Chairman T. Ravindra and Mysuru Zone Convenor P. Srinivas Prasad were present.
