Plea to revive MUTA

Sir,

The Mysore University Teachers Association (MUTA) is an old organisation and it is very disturbing that in the last 4-5 years it has failed to keep up its tradition by not working towards the interest of teachers. Last August 2016, a General Body of the Association was convened to discuss the issue of passing a resolution seeking the Chancellor to send the then VC Prof. K.S. Rangappa on leave as he was booked under a criminal case and was enlarged on bail.

While the majority approved the resolution, the President of the Meeting and the President of MUTA Prof. Muzafar Assadi refused to allow the resolution to be passed and resigned from the post. The General Body directed the Secretary of the Association Dr. B.C. Thimmarayappa to convene a General Body in a month’s time to elect new office-bearers and inform the press about the happenings. He deliberately failed to carry out the directions. The UoM has no permanent VC in the last ten months. Grievances of teachers are mounting. Yet, in spite of several requests by teachers, the Secretary continues to be indifferent.

The Secretary must remember that his inaction and indifference is an act of hypocrisy and moral irresponsibility. He must not represent MUTA anywhere as its Secretary.
