Plea seeking vacation of stay on Mysore Varsity VC appointment

HC adjourns hearing to Aug. 2

Mysore/Mysuru: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on the plea seeking vacation of  the stay order on the appointment of Prof. N.K. Loknath as the University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor to Aug. 2.

Following a petition filed by another aspirant Prof. Sharath Ananthamurthy (son of  late Prof. U.R. Ananthamurthy), the High Court last month (June 21), had stayed the Mar. 23, 2023 Government order appointing Prof. Loknath as the UoM Vice-Chancellor, who had taken charge of the post the following day (Mar. 24).

Following the stay order on his appointment,   Prof. Loknath filed a petition seeking vacation of the stay. The Court, which heard the plea, had posted the hearing for July 13. However, the matter did not come up for hearing on Thursday (July 13) as scheduled and the HC adjourned the next hearing in the case to Aug. 2, it is learnt.

Former State Advocate General Ashok Haranahalli is arguing on behalf of  Prof. Loknath, while another former State Advocate General and senior advocate Ravivarma Kumar is arguing for Prof. Sharath Ananthamurthy.
