Sir,
I get a small pension from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), after retiring as an Occupational Therapist, JSS Hospital. November Month is when one must prove one is alive. This year, I received a message on my smart phone that I could do it through an app, as Covid infection put us at risk in crowds. Last year, it entailed a long wait with hundreds of pensioners, at the EPF Head Office.
Several attempts showed the status as pending. I approached the V.V. Mohalla Post Office as the message mentioned one could do the same at Post Offices also. The job was done in a jiffy, by the courteous staff, and I was delighted !
Around 4 pm, a Postwoman, smartly turned up on her bike. She asked if I had registered for the Life Certificate. She had the biometric equipment and could do it at our doorstep. On hearing I got it done at the Post Office, she smiled saying she was happy to provide the service at home. This was a first-of-its-kind in my lifetime! I was amazed, and wondered why this could not be done every year.
Covid has certainly brought out the best in many. I salute the Postal Service for making my life easier.
