Mysuru: Marking World Organ Donation Day, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in association with Young Indians (Yi), Mysuru, had organised a ‘Pledge your organs’ campaign at Dufferin Clock Tower (Chikkagadiyara) near Devaraja Market here this morning.
JSS Hospital Nephrologist Dr. Manjunath Shetty explained the importance of organ donation and how a single donor could save a minimum of eight lives.
He recalled the recent transportation of organs harvested from a deceased person Puttegowda from Mysuru to Bengaluru by creating two green corridors and transplanting to recipients there. Puttegowda’s wife and two children were honoured on the occasion.
MCC Health Officer Dr. Nagaraj administered oath to MCC staff and Pourakarmikas to pledge their organs.
The programme received about 100 organ donation pledges by the members of CII, Yi and Rotary Mysore.
CII Karnataka Chairman Dr. Muthukumar, Mysuru Wing Chairman Arjun Ranga, Yi Chairman Ravishankar and others were present.
