Poacher killed as Forest  Guards open fire

An alleged poacher was killed on the spot when the Forest Guards opened fire on a group of five people, who were seen suspiciously hiding inside the shrubs waiting to hunt wild animals at Uyamballi Forest Area located at Kanakapura Taluk in Ramanagar early this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Guru (24), a resident of Doddaladahalli in Kanakapura Taluk. The other four alleged poachers managed to escape.

The Forest officials said that the guards, on noticing a group of 5-6 poachers holding lethal weapons, cautioned them to surrender. Instead, the poachers launched an attack on the Forest Guards and with no other option the guards had to open fire in an act of self-defence.

As soon as the news spread about Guru’s death, the villagers stormed into the forest and pelted stones on the Forest sleuths. Ramanagar DCF, ACF and other forest officials visited the spot. Sathanur Police have registered a case and investigating.

They have deployed additional force at the spot as a precautionary measure.
