Political leaders from outside Mysuru should leave district by May 8 evening: Dy. Commr.

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. K.V. Rajendra, who is also the District Electoral Officer, has asked the representatives of various political parties, who have come to Mysuru district for campaigning, to leave the district two days before voting takes place on May 10.

During a meeting with hotel owners at his office yesterday, the DC highlighted the potential for those coming from outside Mysuru district to engage in election irregularities by luring voters with money. As such, hotel owners and staff should check the identity cards of those staying in their hotels and collect information about their visit. If outsiders have come for political purposes, they should leave the district two days before polling takes place, he said.

The DC specified that as voting is scheduled to take place on May 10, political leaders from outside Mysuru should leave Mysuru district before 6 pm on May 8. Hotel owners should ensure compliance with this regulation, while there are no such restrictions for tourists.

The DC also asked hotel owners to display posters promoting the importance of voting in their hotels and raise awareness among their staff. Furthermore, he requested that hoteliers report election irregularities through the cVIGIL App and provide leave with pay for staff to enable them to vote.

As the District Administration has released a schedule of dry days for the upcoming Assembly polls to ensure a peaceful, free and fair election, the DC warned of legal action against violators. Dry days will be enforced from 6 pm on May 8 until 12 midnight on May 10 (the day of voting) and from midnight on May 12 to midnight on May 13 (the day of vote counting).

The DC also requested that hotel owners install CCTV cameras that function 24×7 and store CCTV footage for 30 days, ensuring continuous power supply.

Election Tahsildar Ramprasad, hotel owners from the district, and others were present during the meeting.
