Poll code violation: Checking intensified

Nanjangud – On the eve of voting for Nanjangud by-poll tomorrow, the Police personnel intensified checking of vehicles at various check-posts in Nanjangud this morning.

All vehicles entering the temple town are being stopped at the check-post located at the entrance of the town and are being thoroughly checked for the possible transport of money, liquor and gifts to be distributed among the voters to lure them.

Meanwhile, the special mobile squad, attached to the Excise Department, in a drive conducted across Nanjangud Assembly segment from Apr. 1 to 5, has booked 16 cases and arrested 20 persons on charges of violation of poll code.

The Excise Officials have seized a total of 37.660 litres of liquor from them in the 5-day period.

Meanwhile, Mysuru DC D. Randeep has declared dry days in the entire district from 5 pm on Apr. 7 to midnight of Apr. 9 in the wake of Nanjangud by-poll on Apr.9.

Accordingly, all liquor shops in the district are ordered to close down in this period and sale, transportation and storage of liquor is prohibited.

A dry day has been declared from midnight of Apr. 12 to midnight Apr. 13 in Nanjangud taluk in the wake of counting of votes to be held on Apr. 13.
