Gonikoppa (Kodagu): Ponnampet Taluk Horata Samiti has decided to stage Ponnampet bandh tomorrow to draw the attention of the Government which is said to be hesitating to give a taluk status to Ponnampet.
The struggle, launched by the Committee, entered 66th day on Friday and the Samiti members decided to call for Ponnampet Bandh tomorrow in the context of Chief Minister Siddharamaiah arriving in the district on Jan.9 hoping that the bandh would apprise the CM on the gravity of the struggle.
The meeting decided to organise the bandh tomorrow from 6 am onwards which would cover all the 21 Gram Panchayats. However, it was also decided not to obstruct vehicular movement.
Samiti Convenor M. Ravindra assured that the bandh would not affect school, colleges, hospitals, distribution of milk and newspaper. He added that thousands of villages of all Gram Panchayats would assemble tomorrow in front of Gandhi Statue in Ponnampet and take out a rally.
Taluk Punar Rachana Samiti Hon. President C. Arun Machaiah said that the Chief Minister had responded positively for the proposal to form the taluk of Ponnampet.
Gonikoppa Chamber of Commerce has extended full support for the proposed bandh tomorrow.
