PoP Ganesha idols seized

MCC official checking Ganesha Idols at Maistry Thimmaiahchar Choultry Trust premises on Irwin Road.

Mysuru: Even though the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has enforced a strict ban on manufacturing of Ganesha idols using Plaster of Paris (PoP), there are a few who continue to use this  banned material. MCC Health Officer Dr. Jayanth, Environmental Engineer Arpita and Corporator Sridhar, who found persons making PoP Ganesha idols on Irwin Road and near Surya Bakery in Hebbal opposite SBI and Kuvempu statue, seized the idols yesterday.

The idols have been sent to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) for checking and if found that PoP has been used then action will be taken, said Dr. Jayanth speaking to Star of Mysore here this morning.

He said that manufacturing and selling of idols made out of PoP is banned and action will be taken against those who violate this rule. He asked the manufacturers instead to use clay, which are eco-friendly, for making the idols.

The operation to seize the PoP idols has continued this morning too.
