Pourakarmikas refuse segregated garbage in Ramakrishnanagar

Sir,

This has reference to the news item titled ‘MCC gets tough: Segregate waste to avoid penalty’ published in SOM dated May 30. In this connection, I wish to bring the following facts for the information of the MCC and needful action at their end.

The door-to-door garbage collection in our area (Ramakrishnanagar G Block) is good. The Pourakarmikas, though not maintaining timings, are collecting garbage daily. Till 3-4 months back, the residents were segregating the dry and wet garbage separately and handing it over to the garbage staff.

However, we were told that we need not segregate the garbage and give only one bin containing wet and dry garbage; even the segregated garbage that we give is mixed and poured into the vehicle.

In this connection, I request the MCC Commissioner and the official concerned to give clear instructions to the Pourakarmikas about this segregation, as otherwise, things will get worse and it would be difficult to set things right.

I also request the MCC to educate residents by conducting seminars/meetings at all wards. It is essential to install CCTV cameras at vulnerable spots. I hope the MCC will take suitable action in the matter.
