Mysore/Mysuru: A workshop on “From Theory to Practice: GST and Direct Tax Hands on Experience” was organised by the PG Department of Commerce at JSS College of Arts Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru recently. The programme aimed to provide practical knowledge of the Indian tax system to students.
After the inauguration by watering a plant, the Chief Executive of the College, Prof. B. V. Sambhashivaiah, highlighted the importance of GST and direct taxes.
He emphasised that understanding the tax system is essential for the development of the Indian economy. He explained that the Indian tax system is based on the Constitution of India Article 265 and is broadly divided into direct and indirect taxes. The tax system plays a crucial role in sectors such as education, defence, science and technology, thereby contributing to national development.
Dr. Prabhu, Principal of the College, stated that knowledge of GST and taxation practices is essential for students, faculty and aspiring tax practitioners.
Resource person Chinthan, Auditor and Tax Consultant, provided insights into filing GST and direct tax returns. He explained the procedures clearly and highlighted their importance for M.Com students.
About 90 students and 4 teachers participated. Meghana welcomed. Ananya H.C. Gowda proposed the vote of thanks. P. Dhanush compered. Dr. N. Dileep, Head of the Department, was present on the occasion.
