Mysuru: The daily practice of yoga and music will bring a person peace of mind, said well-known Hindustani classical singer Dr. Indudhar Nirody.
He was speaking after inaugurating the World Music Day celebrations organised by Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road in city on June 21 and said that if one practices yoga then one gets peace of mind, however, if one listens to music performed by others then there is tranquillity.
“I was always interested in music and hence from the age of 12, I performed on the stage. People used to appreciate me telling that I sing well. Once when I went to Mumbai, a Sangeetha Guru gave me an opportunity to perform. I was scared and sang with fear. However, I was happy that I sang better than the students present there,” he said.
“Only when one is interested in music is it possible to learn. The students studying in Music University must not think that just because they have got a degree they know everything. They should continue to learn and also learn listening to others. One should also share what one has learnt with others, only then can our knowledge grow,” said Dr. Nirody. Continuing, he said that one should always share only what one knows. One should not lie and by lying, a wrong message is sent.
Later, Bengaluru Karnatak classical singer Amritha Venkatesh performed.
Music University Registrar (Administration) Prof. Nagesh V. Bettakote, Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. R. Rajesh, Finance Officer Prof. H.N. Gayathri and others were present.
Before the programme, the artistes and music connoisseurs went on ‘Naadayatra for world peace’ from the University campus to Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha.
