Precaution dose for elders: A suggestion to DHO

Sir,

Though the first two doses of COVID-19 vaccination process went off smoothly, it is a herculean task for senior citizens to avail the “precaution dose” or “booster dose” in designated Government Hospitals and PHCs in Mysuru.

Reason: Bring 10 members as each vial contains 10 doses.

As per Government rules, only frontline workers and seniors can avail free booster vaccination at Government Centres while the rest of the population can get vaccinated at private hospitals for a nominal fee.

Now the wait for the seniors to avail booster dose seems longer as they are made to wait for long hours or sent back home asking them to come back another day.

Being a senior citizen, I myself visited a centre thrice and returned without availing the vaccination for want of 10 members to open a vial. How am I supposed to collect the required ten members?

Hence, I request the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the District Health Officer (DHO) to find out an alternative.

My suggestion would be to allot a particular time slot, say 9 am to  1 pm or any four days in a week so that the eligible seniors can visit the vaccination booths during that time or day.

Hope, a suitable decision will be taken in the interest of the elderly community.
