Pregnant woman killed as KSRTC bus hits

Kollegal: A pregnant woman was killed on the spot, when a speeding KSRTC bus hit her while she was crossing the road in front of the bus stand at Kamagere village in the taluk yesterday.

The deceased woman is Namitha (22), a resident of Ajjipura village. Angry villagers and relatives of the deceased woman blocked the road and staged a protest thus expressing their anger.

Villagers said that this was the third accident death at the village in four to five months and added that though they had requested the Police and KSRTC Depot Manager to install barricades for safety of public, our requests fell on deaf ears. They demanded installation of speed breakers or barricades to control the speed of buses and staged a protest disrupting traffic for some time.

Meanwhile, Kollegal KSRTC Depot Manager Shankar, who arrived at the spot, condoled the death of Namitha and said that Rs. 25,000  will be given as expenses for the last rites as soon as the charge-sheet is made and added that compensation will be provided through the Court.

Kollegal and Hanur Taluk Police, who reached the spot managed to convince the protesting villagers to call off their stir.
