Prevent blocking of Conservancy Lanes

Sir,

The erstwhile City Improvement Trust Board (CITB) developed various well-laid layouts and extensions by offering lot of amenities to the public. One such amenity was the provision of about ten feet ‘conservancy lane’ at the back side of the houses.

Through this conservancy the amenities which demand road cutting like electrical connection, water connection, drainage connection etc., were executed without making any damage to the roads. Probably the concept of providing conservancy was to avoid road cutting.

But of late in many old layouts, this conservancy is getting converted into asphalted or concrete roads and the residents are fixing a door to enter the conservancy directly from their house.

In some locations the residents staying at the end of the conservancy block the entry to the conservancy by building a solid wall across the conservancy and convert the conservancy as their private area.

Some other residents block the entry to the conservancy with a grill gate under lock and key, which needs to be appreciated.

Blocking of conservancy with a sold brick wall makes the life of other residents miserable, since their access to the drainage system is curtailed and in case of any clogging of the drainage system, it will be a herculean task for them to get the drainage system rectified.

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) should ensure that no residents block the entry to the conservancy with a solid wall and also MCC should ensure that the conservancy is well maintained and devoid of wild growth of plants and shrubs.
