Previous Mayoral poll fallout – I will do what High Command says: MLA Tanveer Sait

Mysore/Mysuru: After the bitter fallout with Opposition leader Siddharamaiah’s camp following the last Mayoral election held on Feb. 24, in which Rukmini Madegowda of the JD(S) was elected Mayor, N.R. Constituency Congress MLA Tanveer Sait has said that he will do only what the Congress High Command asks him to do.

Speaking to presspersons at his residence in Udayagiri here on Thursday, Tanveer Sait said  that now a Deputy Mayor has got an opportunity to function as Acting Mayor, though for a brief period, adding that the annulment of the election of Rukmini from Ward 36 was expected.

With the MCC announcing June 11 as the date for electing a new Mayor, he said he will do whatever his party (Congress) gives him in writing.

Maintaining that the Congress had joined hands with the JD(S) with the sole purpose of keeping the BJP out of power, Sait said he felt disappointed over the developments in the party post-Mayoral election.

Reiterating that he will do whatever the party asks him to do, only if given in writing, Sait contended that he was unfairly targeted by some party leaders over his role in the Mayoral polls on Feb. 24.

Replying to a question on the continuation of  JD(S)-Congress alliance in the MCC, Sait said that he has already held first round of talks with JD(S) MLA S.R. Mahesh, when Mahesh said that the JD(S) was willing to leave the Mayor post for this term, if the Congress agrees to leave the Mayor’s Office to the JD(S) for the remaining two terms of the present tenure of the MCC. He has written a letter  to the party High Command on the terms and conditions set out by the JD(S), Sait added.
