Prior permission mandatory for any political event

Family functions, religious ceremonies and weddings exempted from permission

Mysore/Mysuru:  Due to the current enforcement of the election model code of conduct, political parties are required to obtain prior permission for conducting door-to-door campaigns, political meetings and organising rallies and processions.

To streamline this process, the Mysuru District Administration has established a single-window system at the district office. Here, political parties can submit applications seeking permission to conduct various election-related programmes and campaigns.

However, individuals organising weddings, housewarming functions and other family events, whether at their homes or elsewhere, are not obligated to seek permission from the election authorities. Religious and other domestic events do not require permission either.

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer for Mysuru-Kodagu LS Constituency Dr. K.V. Rajendra clarified that only political and poll-related events require his explicit permission. Parties and candidates must formally request permission from his office by submitting a letter. Only upon receiving this permission can such events be organised, he emphasised.

For weddings, religious ceremonies and other household events, individuals are required to inform the Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) or local authorities about the events, but formal permission is not necessary. However, in light of the model code of conduct, officers have been instructed to monitor such events closely.
