Private Schools urge Minister to waive off taxes

Bengaluru: In the wake of COVID-19 lockdown, Private Schools have urged the Government to waive off all taxes payable by them.

Mysuru Region Private Educational Institutions President Sudhakar S. Shetty met Revenue Minister R. Ashok at Bengaluru recently and submitted a memorandum seeking waiver of power bills, property tax and road tax on School vehicles.

Arguing that private educational Institutions located in Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts are facing a lot of problems and are unable to pay taxes, Sudhakar Shetty appealed the Government to come to the rescue of schools at this critical juncture by waiving off taxes.

Stating that the Government which has banned online education on one hand is allowing foreign online Apps such as Baiju and Kedopia on the other, he expressed concern that this attitude of the Government was severely hurting the prospects of educational institutions of the State.

The Minister assured that the Government will consider the plea of Schools and take appropriate action.
