Mysuru: Opposing the Union Government’s move to privatise Public Sector Units, Trade Unions have called for a Nationwide stir on Jan.8.
Speaking at a conference of Public Sector Insurance Companies Employees Federation at a private hotel here recently, Federation (South Zone) Joint Secretary J. Suresh appealed all Trade Unions of Banks, Insurance companies and other sectors to make the Jan.8 Nationwide strike a grand success.
Alleging that the Union Government is making moves to privatise Public Sector, he accused the Government of pursuing anti-labour policies. Claiming that the Government was allowing Foreign Direct Investment without any restriction, Suresh alleged that the Government was also making moves to hand over public sector banks to the private sector in the name of merger. Condemning the move to privatise BSNL and LIC, he maintained that the LIC, which is a profit making public sector undertaking, has been making enormous contribution to the government.
He also urged the government to amend Labour Laws only in the interest of the working class.
Federation office-bearer S.B. Balaram, Mysuru District Bank Employees Association President H. Balakrishna, Trade Union leaders S.K. Ramu, Raju, Mallesh, Narendra Pai, N. Mahesh, S.S. Nagesh, Venkatraman, Gangadhar and others were present.
