The Physical Education and Sports Department of GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, hosted VTU State-level Throwball Championship 2023-24, on Feb. 16.
Dr. C. Venkatesh, Professor, Chairman and Director, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, University of Mysore, Mysuru, was the chief guest of the inaugural function held at M. Govinda Rao Memorial Hall in GSSSIETW premises.
In his inaugural speech, he expressed concern that students are facing many challenges to manage their stress and time in present days. To effectively manage their time and reduce stress, he advised students to participate in sports events, which helps in both physical and mental fitness.
Dr. M. Shivakumar, Principal, GSSSIETW, Mysuru, Dr. M. Muralidhar, Regional Director, Physical Education and Sports wing, VTU, Mysuru Region, Mysuru and B.N. Harish Gowda, Physical Education Director, Department of Physical Education and Sports, GSSSIETW, Mysuru, were present on the occasion.
In all, 16 Throwball teams from various VTU-affiliated Engineering Colleges of Karnataka participated in this event.
Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru, won the State-level Championship. GSSSIETW, Mysuru, was the first runner-up team, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Mangaluru, was the second runner-up team, PES College of Engineering, Mandya, secured fourth place.
