Production & Reproduction

Biologists favour the view that every living species is marked by the feature of sustaining its own progeny by the process of reproduction, either sexual or asexual. Human beings, unarguably, do so consciously for reasons far different from the rest of the species on planet Earth, the latter mass resorting to proliferation by instinct of self-preservation. Human beings have their self-declared intelligence on their side in the battle as it were against all other species to not only survive and expand numerically but also to enjoy all the gifts of nature monopolising the resources. Mercifully, only the denizens of the forests, after being hunted from times immemorial, are currently being bestowed compassion while virtually the countless other species such as pests threatening the human beings have faced the wrath of the human beings. Here begins the story of every species getting sandwiched between reproduction to exist and production of resources to live.

Although a bit too late in the day, a realisation appears to have dawned upon the human beings in many circles of literati that the life-supporting resources, particularly water and land are not being managed frugally given the rapidly worsening relationship between resources and their utilisation, read exploitation to match the greed of human species.

Call it a result of outlook or whatever else, residents of rural areas continue to maintain a symbiotic relation with many well-marked other species such as livestock, birds, pets, reptiles, earthworms as well as the flora and fauna, both terrestrial and aquatic, as opposed to the outlook and lifestyle of urbanites marked by their disfavour of sharing the available space with other species in a spirit of live and let live as it were. To cut a long story short, aided by their own knowledge of science and advances in technology, human beings have created materials such as synthetics and contraptions such as automobiles which have assumed mountainous proportions with virtually no clue on reining in their expansion.

The debates among the cognoscenti have examined the issues of matter remaining at the end of the day’s human activities classified into bio-degradable and the indestructible. Mercifully, the living species, including human beings, are in the former category. In case of the latter class of matter, their production as well as human reproduction both seem to have crossed manageable limits.
