Prof. Aravind Malagatti and Prof. K.S. Bhagawan get bail in Bhagavad Gita burning remark

Mysuru: The Fourth JMFC Court has granted bail to University of Mysore (UoM) faculty Prof. Aravind Malagatti and writer Prof. K.S. Bhagawan, who were accused of making remarks on burning Bhagavad Gita.

The two who appeared before the Court on Thursday, were granted bail. Another UoM faculty Prof. B.P. Mahesh Chandra Guru, who is also an accused in the case, had obtained bail much earlier.

Following a complaint, the Jayalakshmipuram Police had registered a case against the three on charges that they had hurt religious sentiment by stating that Bhagavad Gita should be burnt at a seminar held in Feb. 2015.

The Court, which heard the case, had ordered the two to appear before it on Thursday for breaching of conditions of anticipatory bail.

Following the Court’s direction, Prof. Malagatti and Prof. Bhagawan appeared before the Court yesterday where they were granted bail.
