Mysuru: Prof. K.M. Jayaramaiah, Non-official Member, Karnataka Lake Protection and Development Authority has written a letter to MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha suggesting construction of ‘Kalyanis’ (ponds) at vacant spots of old dry lakes and water soak pits beside parks and other places to improve the ground water level.
Citing a few examples, Jayaramaiah has stated that Subbarayanakere, Jeevanarayana Katte, Doddakere and Maruluvadi Lakes are being used as sports grounds, parks, to hold expos and temple.
However a few ‘Kalyanis’ could be created at those places along with construction of water soak pits beside parks so that rain water would flow into it and would not be wasted.
The improved ground water level would replenish borewells, he has stated in the letter.
