Mysore: Prof. S.L. Belagali of Department of Studies (DoS) in Environmental Science, University of Mysore (UoM), was felicitated on attainment of superannuation at programme organised at Rani Bahadur auditorium in Manasagangothri yesterday.
Speaking after honouring Prof. S.L. Belagali and his wife Sunitha at the programme organised jointly by the Department of Studies (DoS) in Environmental Science and Prof. S.L. Belagali Felicitation Committee, former Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore (UoM) Prof. S.N. Hegde called upon retired Professors to use their expertise, knowledge and work even after their retirement as there are immense opportunities available for them in teaching unlike other retired government and bank employees.
Stating to bring reforms in the selection process of lecturers, he urged to give importance to select lecturers from outside the University, districts and State instead of sticking to archaic rules of selecting the teaching staff from the same university. The government must make use of talents from outside the districts for the betterment of the education system.
Former Kuvempu University VC Prof. B.S. Sherigara recalled his association with Prof. Belagali when they were working together at Mangaluru University. He described the former’s analytical teaching skills and he (Belagali) emerging as a successful Environmental Scientist, despite beginning his career as a Chemistry Professor.
He also hailed the contributions of Prof. Belagali for the growth of University of Mysore which is one the best varsity in the country by publishing various research articles related to environment.
University of Mysore VC Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar, Registrar Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi, Dr.N.S. Raju, Dr.S. Srikantaswamy, Dr.G.V. Venkataramanna, Dr. K.S. Kumar, Dr. D.C. Shyamala and others were present.
