Mysore/Mysuru: Former Chairman, Department of Studies in Hindi, University of Mysore Prof. (Dr.) Thippeswamy (retd.) passed away at a private hospital in city yesterday. He was 80.
He also served as Visiting Professor at Babu Jagjivan Ram Research Centre, Manasagangothri, University of Mysore.
He leaves behind his wife B.S. Nagarathna, sons K.T. Puneeth Kumar and K.T. Yatish Kumar and host of relatives and friends.
Last rites were held at Veerashaiva Burial Grounds in Vidyaranyapuram this afternoon, according to family sources.
His body was kept at his Kuvempunagar residence for people to pay their last respects.
Dr. Thippeswamy’s contribution in the field of translation has been well-known. He has translated various Hindi literary works to Kannada language and vice versa.
Born on June 11, 1946 in Koratagere taluk of Tumakuru district, Dr. Thippeswamy graduated from Government College in Tumakuru. He secured first rank in M.A (Hindi) from University of Mysore and was awarded Ph.D by Kochi University. He served in the University of Mysore, Department of Studies in Hindi, from 1973 till 2006.
Dr. Thippeswamy has received many awards for his literary works including Kendra Sahitya Award, Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, Premchand National Award, Karnataka Anuvada Sahitya Academy Honorary Award, Goenka Award and Dwivageesh Award among others.
