Mysuru: Prof. T.K. Umesh, Dean of Physics, University of Mysore (UoM) took charge as the fifth In-charge Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Mysore on Saturday.
UoM has been functioning without a regular VC since Prof. K.S. Rangappa demitted office in Jan. 2017.
After Prof. Rangappa demitted office on Jan. 10, 2017, Prof. Yashwant Dongre, Prof. B. Dayananda Mane, Prof. C. Basavaraju and Prof. Ningamma Betsur had served as in-charge Vice-Chancellors since then and now Prof. T.K. Umesh is the fifth in-charge Vice-Chancellor. His term will last on Sept. 21, 2018 and by then, the Government is expected to appoint a regular Vice-Chancellor.
Apart from Prof. T.K. Umesh, the Government had sent the names of Deans Prof. Ayesha of Commerce Department, Prof. Mahadev of Humanities and Prof. Mathi Alagan of Education Department to the Governor for appointment of in-charge VC.
But the Governor appointed Prof. T.K. Umesh, who was the senior-most among the recommended Deans.
