2,63,480 children to be immunised in district
Mysuru: With World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring India as a Polio-free nation on Mar.24, 2014, the Department of Health and Family Planning has been effectively carrying on pulse polio drive in the district.
District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. B.Basavaraj has appealed people to take their children to the nearest centre tomorrow and get them immunised with polio vaccine.
Elaborating on the arrangements, Dr. Basavaraj said that 1,51,850 children will be immunised in the taluks at 1,186 centres and 1,11,630 children at 402 centres in city thus adding up to 2,63,480 children at 1588 centres in the district.
He further said that 6,352 paramedics with 320 supervisors would administer the polio vaccine. He added that 27 centres will function at bus stand, city railway station, tourist spots and other places to take care of kids of the floating population.
The DHO continuing said that teams would visit homes on subsequent days and administer polio vaccine to needy children below 5 years. He added that even nomads and tribals would be covered in the mission.
Mysore Makkala Koota in association with Primary Health Centre (PHC), Kuvempunagar, has organised a Polio vaccination for the kids. The drive will also be held at Bhanavi Hospital between 8 am and 5 pm.
