Punished by Principal, Warden: Kids spend entire night outside the residential school

Pandavapura – Twenty-seven students of Morarji Desai Residential School in Keretonnur village near Pandavapura, had to sleep on the open ground on Monday night as the School Principal and the Warden put them out of the school as punishment.

Angry parents, who rushed to the school on getting information, took the Principal and the Warden to task for giving such a harsh punishment.

According to parents, School Principal T.M. Usha and Warden Pushpalatha punished the students because a few of them reportedly broke electrical switchboards, taps and water heaters. When Usha and Pushpalatha asked students to name the children who had damaged school property, none of the students owned up, resulting in Usha and Pushpalatha reportedly ordering the students to take their belongings and get out of their rooms. She then locked the rooms, forcing the children to spend the entire night outside the school in the open.

Their parents, who heard about the punishment, rushed to the School along with ZP Member C. Ashok in the morning and took the Principal and the Warden to task.

Ashok, who spoke to the Principal and the Warden, warned them of taking legal action if the incident is repeated besides asking them to take the teachers of the School into confidence and work in cooperation and not to spoil the future of the kids.

Principal Usha, who also spoke, said that they punished the kids so that they would mend their ways and added that despite asking the students to go inside the School, they stayed outside. She also said that such incident would not be repeated again.
