Bharathinagar: A Python which was caught in a net that was cast to catch fish in a lake at Kadukothanahalli village near here, was rescued by snake rescuer M.N. Prasannakumar of Maddur, who released it into Muthathi Forest.
One Mahesh of the village, who has taken the lake on contract, had cast the net in the lake along with other fishermen to catch fish.
When the fishermen tried to haul the net to the lake bed, they found the net heavy than usual and could not pull the net to the lake bed completely.
Sensing something fishy, the fishermen observed the net closely and saw a Python caught in the net.
The shocked fishermen rushed to the village and informed others about the Python. But by the time they came back to the lake, the Python had dragged the net to the middle of the lake.
Meanwhile, Forest Department personnel, who arrived at the spot, went to the middle of the lake in coracles and tried to free the Python but in vain. They then summoned Prasannakumar from Maddur, who managed to rescue the Python and later released it into Muthathi Forest.
The snake rescue operation attracted hundreds of people who had thronged near the lake to have a glimpse of the Python.
People were seen clicking selfies after the Python was rescued.
