Bengaluru: Mysuru veteran TT players fared well in the third edition of ‘Queens Cup’ – Karnataka Veterans Ranking TT Championship organised by Karnataka Veterans Table Tennis Association at Malleshwaram Association TT Hall here on June 16 and 17. This yearly event was sponsored by women veteran TT players.
Dr. B.R. Sainath Iyer, formerly Professor and HoD, Pharmacology, bagged Gold in 75+ category while Mahesh Kumar of Hebbal TT Academy, did strike it rich by getting Silver in Men 50+ and also claiming a special Award of ‘Rising Star.’ Manideep Sen (Bengaluru) won gold in the Men 50+ category.
Mysuru’s K.V. Krishnamurthy had taken Dr. Sainath to the final game in semifinal. Mamatha, winner of many tournaments, also had to be contended with a semi-final slot. Gururaj from CFTRI, Mysuru, kissed and missed the knockout stage of competition by the proverbial skin of the teeth. Premee (Bengaluru) surprised Lathika (Bengaluru), the Asian Winner of Gold in Sri Lanka last year, to take the Gold in 60+ women.
Rajani Pani (Bengaluru) was the surprise package of the tournament when she got Silver in 50+ Women event losing to a very consistent and ‘not easy to beat’ player, Nagaratna (Bengaluru) in the final.
