The Eco Club, sponsored by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited, was inaugurated at JSS Women’s College in Saraswathipuram recently by Dean (Academic) Dr. H.B. Suresh.
The event was conducted with an objective of creating a sense of responsibility among students towards the current energy crises and inspiring them to take action to spread awareness on renewable Energy. It aimed at increasing their knowledge on a range of renewable Energy technologies, their applications and economics of use. The students got first-hand working knowledge of solar water heaters, solar cooking stoves, street-lights and solar LED lamp work.
After inauguration, D.K. Dinesh Kumar, Project Engineer, KREDL, gave a Power Point Presentation about progress of Renewable Energy in India and Karnataka; various subsidy schemes offered by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for people to install roof-top grid connected system, NABARD scheme for rural domestic solar home light systems and solar water pumping systems.
He also explained about renewable energy and energy conservation opportunities at college and domestic sector. Later a Quiz and Poster Presentation competition was conducted for Eco Club members. Solar Lanterns were given to winners. Winners are:

Poster Presentation: A.S. Chayashree, H.S. Spoorthi, A.N. Priyadarshini, J. Jenicaa Poovanna and H.M. Madalambika.
Controller of Examination Dr G.R. Shivamurthy, Programme Coordinator Prof. K.G. Shivakumar Swamy, Teaching and Non-teaching staff were present on the occasion.
