Mysuru: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashoka celebrated his birthday with inmates of Beggars Rehabilitation Centre in Jyothinagar here on Monday.
After cutting the cake, he distributed it among the inmates. Later, lunch was served to all the inmates and staff. The menu included rice bath, curd rice, obbattu etc.
State BJP Secretary M. Rajendra, former KEA Chairman B.P. Manjunath, Corporator M. Satish, leader N. Brahmachar and others were present.
Earlier in the morning, Ashoka visited the famous Kalabhairaveshwara Temple in KT Street and went to Chamundi Hill, where he offered special prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari.
Ashoka also visited Hotel Sandesh The Prince, where he cut a cake.
MLC Sandesh Nagaraj, former Mayor and BJP leader Sandesh Swamy, leaders Yashaswini Somashekar, Arun Kumar Gowda, Hemanth Kumar Gowda, Corporator M.V. Ramprasad and others were present.
About the Centre
The Beggars Rehabilitation Centre is located in an area measuring about six acres in Jyothinagar. Currently, there are 450 inmates. The inmates are given a blue dress. The inmates perform duties such as cleaning the area, gardening activities, washing etc., in the premises.
The inmates can also enjoy playing games such as cricket, volleyball, throwball etc.
Regular medical check-up camps are organised for the inmates and treatment given in case of ailments.
