Rabid dog attacks children, elders at three villages

Mysuru: In a biting spree, a rabid dog bit more than 15 people in three different villages in Mysuru taluk on Thursday evening. The dog started its attack around 4 pm at Pillalli where it bit a lot of villagers whose names have not still been identified. The villagers, on seeing the attack, chased the dog away using sticks and pelted stones at it.

Then the dog ran for three kilometres and entered Varakodu village around 6 pm, where it bit children Preetham and Yeshoda and a few others. The dog then entered Moodalahundi around 7 pm and continued its biting spree when it bit Madegowda, 55, Puttegowda, 50, children Keerthana, Preethi and Sampath Kumar.

The victims from all the villages were rushed to K.R. Hospital where the treatment was not available as it was already evening. They were all asked to go to Epidemic Diseases Hospital on KRS Road, where they were treated. The condition of a boy who was bit at Moodalahundi, whose name is still not identified, is said to be in critical condition, as he was bitten on hands and face.

The dog was later traced near the paper mill on T. Narasipur Road and enraged villagers killed it. Eyewitnesses said that after its biting spree in three villages, the dog chased one person near the paper mill when some villagers surrounded the dog and killed it.
