JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSSAHER) in association with Organisation For Rare Diseases of India (ORDI) is organising ‘Race for 7’ Marathon on Mar.3. It will be flagged off at Balarama Gate of Mysore Palace at 6.30 am.
ORDI is committed to raise awareness about rare diseases, to empower patients and their families with access to national and international resources. Globally, the last day of Feb. is commemorated as Rare Diseases Day since 2008.
Rare diseases affect more people than the name suggests. In fact 1 out of 20 Indians. Among these, 50% are children; sadder still, most of them die before their fifth birthday due to lack of appropriate medical intervention. But the race against rare diseases is gaining momentum. As per record, more than 7,000 rare diseases have been documented so far. Racefor7 symbolically represents the 7,000 rare diseases with 7,000 people running for 7 kms (7000 mts).
