Mysore/Mysuru: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who is undertaking ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, arrived at the city outskirts from Nanjangud  last evening.

Rahul  was received by a host of Congress leaders and workers near Kalibeeramma Temple at Kadakola on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road, where he arrived by a car after visiting the famed Sri Srikanteshwara Temple in Nanjangud town. As Rahul set off his padayatra from Kadakola at about 4.45 pm, thousands of people, accompanied by a host of folk troupes  joined him and marched to Bandipalya, reaching there at about 6.45pm. At Bandipalya, rains too seemed to have greeted him as it began to pour heavily. Braving the rains, Rahul addressed a massive corner meeting at Bandipalya, where he lashed out at the BJP, accusing it of corruption, divisiveness and maladministration.

On his march from Kadakola to Bandipalya, Rahul waved at the cheering crowds at Marase Gate, Mandakalli Gate and Gejjagalli Gate. Enroute, Rahul had tea and snacks at ‘Avidyavantha Tea and Bonda Stall’ which was set up by Congress workers to mock the BJP’s promise on creation of jobs and eradication of unemployment. All along the march, the workers were served fruits, lassi, butter milk and such other drinks. A host of folk troops too were part of the padayatra, whose performance raised the spirits of the marchers. Many of the marchers wore T-shirts that had the pictures of Rahul Gandhi and other leaders.

District Police led by SP R. Chetan  provided security.

From Bandipalya,  Rahul drove straight to Suttur Mutt at the foot of Chamundi Hill and sought the blessings of Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, during which he held talks with the Seer for some time. Thereafter, he came directly to the open space facing Mysuru Palace and opposite Dasara Exhibition Grounds  and stayed overnight  in the caravan stationed there.
