Railway Mazdoor Union opposes privatisation move

Mysuru:  About 300 members of South Western Railway Mazdoor Union, Mysuru Division, staged a protest this morning in front of the Office of Divisional Railway Manager here.

The stir was as part of the Nationwide ‘Protest Week’ which commenced on Jan.2 opposing the proposal of handing over certain important trains to private operators, urging the Government to stop indiscriminate contractorisation, corporatisation and privatisation of Railway activities and production units.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Mysuru Union Divisional Secretary P. Shivaprakash condemned the privatisation move and added that it would result in steep hike in fares and passenger safety could also be affected. Referring to the Nationwide stir called by the Trade Unions tomorrow, he said that the Railway Union would only offer moral support without resorting to any strike which is in the interest of the moving public.

Divisional President S. Somashekar, Zonal Working President Arthur Fernandes, Divisional Treasurer M. Nagendran, Divisional Vice-President Shivakumar and others led the Union members during the dharna.
