Mysuru: The Mysuru Division of South Western Railway (SWR) has installed a 110-KW solar panels on Railway Station platform rooftop and a 100-KW Solar panel on the rooftop of Divisional Railway Manager office building at a cost of Rs.1.68 crore, which will be commissioned shortly.
The Railways is promoting renewable energy under the initiative of Green Environment Project. The division has successfully installed LED lights covering all 124 Railway Stations and structural buildings over the Division.
Solar panels and wind hybrid plants have been installed with a capacity of 15 KW and 30 KW respectively at Birur, Chitradurga, Chikmagalur and Chikjajur Railway Stations. This will help in reducing the load of over 250-KW worth of 7.3 lakh units per annum at a cost of Rs.60.25 lakh, according to Dr. S.G. Yathish, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, in a press release.
