Mysuru – As predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department, it rained again in Mysuru yesterday night and the rain was accompanied by lightning and thunder.
It also rained in most parts of Kodagu bringing relief to people who were worried about rising temperature and sinking groundwater levels. The rain, however, did not result in water flow to Harangi reservoir in Kodagu and then to Krishnaraja Sagar in Mandya as most of the water will be evaporated in this hot weather.
It began raining at around 8.30 pm in Mysuru and the showers lasted for more than one hour. Gusty winds accompanied the rain. A tree crashed on the house of one Ravi in Kuvempunagar damaging the roof. Two trees fell on the Paduvana Road at T.K. Layout. Several branches of trees fell near Maruthi Temple in T.K. Layout and Sharadadevinagar Second Stage, blocking traffic.
Electric wires were snapped, disrupting power supply in Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Ward No. 10 and the MCC Abhaya teams carried out road clearing operations. Several low-lying areas including T.K. Layout, Janata Nagar complained of water-logging while a manhole burst open behind Kamakshi Hospital in Saraswathipuram causing severe inconvenience to the residents.
